Nature Tourism

Nature tourism is one of the fastest-growing tourism sectors around the world. People travel to interact with nature directly, including walking and cycling, bird and whale watching, and art and photography courses. In the HEY LNP area, the value of wildlife watching trips increased from £9 million to £24 million from 2010 to 2018, according to research by Leeds Beckett University. A key aspect of this growth has been investment in visitor facilities at several nature reserves. Existing schemes are already in place to further promote the range of wildlife-based options on the coast, Wolds, Humber and beyond.
Green Skills

Green skills can relate to a variety of roles, from engineering to conservation to advocacy. Opportunities for green skills development have been identified by our partners across the region, including for government Skills Bootcamps proposals.
Invasive Non-native Species

Non–native species have been introduced by humans into our country for centuries, both accidentally and on purpose. There are around 2000 non-native species in Britain and approximately 10 new ones establishing per annum. Most are harmless, but around 10-15% spread and become invasive non-native species (INNS) which harm wildlife and the environment, are costly to the economy and can even impact on our health and way of life.
Health and Wellbeing

Numerous scientific studies over the years have demonstrated the benefits that being in nature has on our health. These include better concentration in school, reduced obesity and blood pressure, reduced stress and depression, reduced symptoms of dementia, and feeling safer where you live.
Natural Capital

Natural capital comprises the elements of the environment which provide valuable goods and services that allow people to survive and live healthily. To strengthen and grow our economy, we must protect and invest in our natural environment, which can offset carbon emissions and provide greater flood resilience, cleaner air and water, cooler towns, drought protection as summer temperatures rise, and greener routes for commuting and recreation. This will also create more beautiful places, encouraging business investment.
