This photo was taken at Bempton Cliffs RSPB nature reserve in June 2024 during the peak Puffin visiting season. It’s one of my favourites as the Gannet is quite a common bird that often gets overshadowed by the Puffins there.

This Gannet was sat posing for me next to the main footpath at the reserve. Bempton Cliffs is one of the most iconic coastal regions in England where nature lovers come to visit and this is one of my favourite photos from my visits there.

Ross McClean

coast under 18

This picture is taken at Bridlington beach – our local beach which shows that the East Yorkshire coastline is beautiful at any time of the year and we are lucky to have it on our doorstep.

Eva

grassland 18+

Chalk grasslands are an important part of East Yorkshire’s landscape and natural environment.

This photo of Marbled White Butterflies on Field Scabious – both typical chalk grassland species – was taken at Kiplingcotes Quarry near Goodmanham in July 2024.

Simon Tull

urban under 18

This photo was taken in my back garden. I love nature and grow a variety of flowers.

I was waiting for a bee to land on my beautiful lavenders and I captured it. I think this positively represents my area well as where I live. I have a lively population of bees, ducks and geese.

Winter migrant Short-eared Owls entertaining the visitors to the RSPB reserve at Bempton cliffs on a winter’s afternoon, offering fantastic close-up opportunities of our Northern European wintering guests while they hunt in daylight in our milder climate.

Martin Cole

urban nature 18+

This was taken at Ennerdale leisure centre in Hull, a very urban location.

Buzzards were once rare, but now they are a common sighting across the countryside and within cities.

Matthew Morgan

large landscapes Under 18

My photograph was taken in some fields just outside of Holme on Spalding Moor.

I believe it represents the peacefulness and beauty of our East Yorkshire countryside.

Mia

woodland under 18

This photograph was taken in the country park in Hessle.

My mum is a teacher and I joined one of her sessions which was in nature photography. I love this photograph. I think it’s lovely.

Frankie

woodland 18+

This is North Cliffe Wood during May, when the display of bluebells is at its best. ‘Carr’ type woodlands, of which North Cliffe Wood is an example, is an important habitat in the East Yorkshire area, supporting a diverse plant and animal population.
